The Industry association use this award each year to recognise the investments being made by companies in their H&S programmes. The association and judges want to see activities that demonstrate quantifiable improvements and go beyond legal requirements imposed through legislation and codes of practice.
MPM have always taken H&S legislation very seriously and have stringent policies in place to answer the legal requirements. The MPM Business Plan set the hard goal of achieving zero reportable accidents by the end of the year.
"Safety policies, procedures, rules and audit programmes are essential, of course, but the fundamental cornerstone of behaviour-based safety is the elimination of at-risk behaviours. We understood that what was needed was a safety-culture and a change of attitudes and behaviours at all levels, and implemented a lean manufacturing NVQ programme for all manufacturing team members, including the directors.”
Workplace Organisation or 5S is taken very seriously at MPM and It was decided to use this element as the foundation for a safe and well ordered workplace; and as the means by which behaviours might be changed.
Our Composites UK. Accident Reporting Form for 2015 shows zero fatal or major accidents; zero RIDDOR accidents; and zero non-RIDDOR accidents. Indeed, since the programme was implemented there have been no reportable accidents in any area of the site. Moreover, there have been no dangerous occurrences or hazardous malfunctions.
